In light of the evolving nature of our submission guidelines, we're introducing a new set of rules to address copyright concerns. These guidelines aim to ensure that all content submitted to the DYM Store respects intellectual property rights.
1. Prohibited Content: Please avoid using the following in your submissions:
- Team/sports logos
- Company logos
- Product logos
- Trademarked logos of any kind
- Trademarked names/titles/celebrity names in the title of games or on title images
- Licensed/copyrighted photos
- Movie/TV stills or theme songs
- Movie/TV/media posters
2. Creative Alternatives: While certain content is off-limits, we encourage you to think outside the box. For instance, instead of using specific celebrity images, consider using generic symbols or icons that convey the same message.
3. Sourcing Images and Videos: There are several ways to legally obtain images or videos:
- Purchase them from reputable sources
- Create them yourself
- Obtain explicit permission from the creator
- Use Creative Commons licensed content
4. Recommended Paid Image & Video Sources:
- iStock by Getty Images
- Getty Images
- ShutterStock
- Adobe Stock
- Envato Elements
- Stockphoto.com
Note: Ensure you understand the licensing terms of each platform. If attribution is required, include a text file in your submission with the necessary licensing information.
5. Royalty-Free Content Sources:
- WikiCommons
- Stockvault
- Pexels
- Unsplash
Note: While many of these platforms offer free content, they may have specific attribution or usage requirements. Always check the licensing policy of the platform.
6. Understanding Creative Commons Licenses:
- CC BY: Allows distribution, remixing, adaptation, and building upon the material with attribution to the creator.
- CC BY-SA: Similar to CC BY, but if you modify the content, you must license your work under identical terms.
- CC0 PUBLIC DOMAIN DEDICATION: Enables creators to relinquish their copyright, allowing others to use the material freely without any conditions.
Note: Always ensure you understand the terms of the license you're using. When in doubt, consult the platform's licensing policy or seek legal advice.
7. Attribution
Make sure that if you do use images that require attribution, you include that as a text file with your game.
Here's an example of what that looks like.
In conclusion, while these guidelines may seem stringent, they're in place to protect both creators and users. We believe in the creativity of the DYM community and are confident that with these guidelines, we can continue to produce high-quality, original content.
