When you publish a resource with Download Youth Ministry, we take care of professional editing, product launch strategy, and accessibility on a website that reaches thousands of people looking for tools that will help them better minister to students.
But you can play a part in marketing your resource! As an author, there are simple things you can do to help more people discover the value in your resource(s).
Thoughts from fellow DYM Author and Editor Ronald Long:
• No one is going to care more about your product than you!
Just because it's in the DYM store, does not mean it'll get sold. We have to start promoting our own stuff outside of the "New Release" window. Be it through our blogs, podcasts, webinars, skywriting, authors need to take ownership and promote their stuff.
• Ad Copy Matters.
Very few people LIKE writing product descriptions. Even fewer are good at it. But we have to get better at writing our ad copy. It's what people read to find out if they're going to spend their credits or their dollars. We need to get better at this. It's different than writing a game and different than writing a message. But it matters!
• Advertising is a thing...
DYM can't carry the weight alone. We have to be driving traffic to our author pages and resources by using advertising. Be it Facebook ads, Pinterest (which is apparently a thing), YouTube or other means, we ought to consider spending some coin.
• There are not enough people who know about DYM!
Everyone knows about Amazon. More people need to know about DYM. That's on us. We need to get the word out whenever we're in front of or around other youth workers.
• There is value in pumping other people's resources!
If you use it, tell someone! That's a huge help to others and if we can make that a big part of the culture, we'll all win.
• We need to think about what Youth Workers need and then deliver.
There are still things we need on the store that can be hugely helpful to youth workers. There's more to do! We need to think about what youth workers need/want and put it in their hands!
Thank you for being part of this community that's helping each other win!
